Choices began in Exeter in 2012 in response to the gap in local services. Our aim was to offer free support to those suffering the emotional distress of being in pregnancy crisis, baby loss or post termination.

Five years ago, we opened a branch office in Teignmouth town centre, which has met the needs of local people in the Torbay and Teignbridge area. Referrals and those contacting us for support are also in the North Devon area and locations in between.

Our practitioners have extensive training in pregnancy crisis, post-termination stress and baby loss. We also support those facing a pregnancy following a baby loss, those experiencing failed IVF and ectopic pregnancy. We have regular independent Supervision from a trained Counselling Supervisor as per the BACP guidelines, which we adhere to.

We support people in our community struggling with mental health issues from shock, trauma, fear, anxiety and complex grief surrounding a crisis pregnancy or baby loss. Clients are often depressed and some feel suicidal, which impacts their partners, families and workplace. We help our clients to process difficult emotions in healthy ways, through a 3 - 4 month programme, giving them the tools to be able to move forward.

We offer face to face support at our Centres in Exeter and Teignmouth. We also offer remote sessions via Teams or Zoom should logistics prove difficult for some. If in crisis, we offer telephone support if a client would prefer not to come to a Centre. Sessions are available to partners. Friends, family members or support workers are welcome to join clients on their initial appointment.
